I’m sure there’s a life lesson in the Texas Rangers’ struggles, but I can’t find it right now. At the moment, it’s just absolutely terrible and not fun.
The Rangers have lost six games in a row, including two to the Chicago White Sox, who are in the conversation for the worst team in the majors. With the way the Rangers are playing at the moment, they might find themselves in that conversation sooner rather than later.
To be honest, I’ve been having trouble finding the right words to describe the monstrosity that is Rangers baseball in 2025. So, in lieu of my plight, I’ve enlisted a thesaurus to help me out. Here are some other words and phrases that paint a picture of just how awful baseball in Arlington is right now:
Appalling
Atrocious (ain’t that the truth)
Depressing
Dire (that’s ominous)
Disgusting (ouch)
Distressing
Dreadful
Ghastly
Gruesome (it’s like watching a crime scene night after night)
Harrowing
Hideous (that’s mean, thesaurus)
Horrendous
Horrible
Horrific
Horrifying
Nasty (that’s what yesterday’s game against the White Sox was)
Shocking
It’s that last word that sums it all up. These first 50 or so games for the Rangers have been shocking, and not in a good way.
I don’t want to start everybody’s Sunday with just some unpleasant sports business, so I’ll leave that for a much larger piece that I’m working on about the Rangers’ unpleasant state that’ll go up sometime later this week. There’s a lot to unpack, especially after this past week. It’s safe to say that we’ve learned a lot about the present and the future of the franchise over the last two months.
Sigh. Take me back to 2023, when the Rangers were shockingly awesome and all our troubles were far away.
