Heading West (Again)
I don't think this trip will be like my last one at all.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate the wonders and beauty of this world so much more. Nature didn’t used to be something I was in awe of, but now I’m more enamored with it than ever.
Mountains, beaches, deserts, hills, rivers, lakes, and oceans confound the senses. It’s a miracle that this Earth, so wonderfully designed and curated, is ours to maintain and enjoy. Actually, it’s a privilege, one that I hope everyone takes seriously.
Over the next week, my wife and I will be exploring that very nature by trekking off to faraway lands. Well, if Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming count as faraway lands, that is.
We’ll start with the beautiful Great Salt Lake before making the drive north to Idaho, which will serve as our base camp for the trip. From there, we’ll venture out to Yellowstone National Park (hopefully that supervolcano I’ve heard so much about decides to stay quiet) and Grand Teton National Park. It’s sure to be a momentous occasion, one fit for celebrating our one-year wedding anniversary.
That’s right! Your boy here and his wonderful, awesome, beautiful wife will be celebrating one year of marriage in just over a week. I mean, how could a simple guy like me get so lucky? It’s truly the blessing of a lifetime.
I promised her there wouldn’t be too much sports on this trip, but if you know me at all, you know there’s no way sports won’t sneak in somehow. (I’m kidding, I think.)
That said, I hope to bring you all along for the ride, wherever this wonderful trip takes us. From the campus of BYU (go Cougs!) to the geysers of Yellowstone (as far as I know, there’s no sports team affiliated with Yellowstone, but if there is, I’m going to find out ASAP), who knows where this journey might lead? All I know is that I’ll be enjoying it with the person I love most, and that’s all that really matters in the end.
