College football has played its first full weekend. The Premier League is three Matchweeks deep. And after an entire month spent watching quarterbacks we’ll never see again play against defensive backs who are currently updating their LinkedIn profiles, the NFL is finally ready to join them.
The original idea behind the Corner Poll was simple: rank teams based on how I feel about them right now. Winning matters, talent matters, expectations matter and the general vibes surrounding a team matter. It isn’t a traditional power ranking as it isn’t supposed to tell you who would win on a neutral field and, most importantly, it gives me the freedom to do stupid things like rank teams that lost because they were screwed (spoiler alert).
Now we’re applying that deeply scientific process to three different sports at three very different stages of their seasons.
The NFL hasn’t played a meaningful snap yet, so those rankings are mostly based on expectations and how much I’ve talked myself into each team over the last month. College football has given us one and a half weekends of evidence, which is simultaneously nowhere near enough information and more than enough information to wildly overreact. The Premier League, meanwhile, has reached the point where some early trends are starting to feel real.
Prepare yourself — this is going to be a lot.
