Welcome to this week’s Corner Poll, where I think it’s important that we acknowledge something before proceeding: We are in uncharted waters. Much like the sailors on The Wager, we’re encountering territories we’ve never seen before.
I’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time staring at these rankings, attempting to make sense of what’s happening across college football, the NFL and the Premier League, and I’ve reached the rather concerning conclusion that none of it makes much sense at all. There is so much wacky, inexplicable nonsense taking place that the whole exercise has begun to boggle the mind, and that’s before we even get to some of the decisions I’ve made.
At some point, trying to impose order on this madness becomes a waste of everybody’s time, so I’ve decided to embrace it instead. Teams are occupying places I never imagined they’d reach, the usual suspects have found themselves in unfamiliar circumstances, and I’ve resorted to some rather unconventional methods of determining who belongs where. I would attempt to defend all of this, but I’m not entirely certain I could do so with a straight face. So, welcome aboard. We’re sailing into completely uncharted territory, and I haven’t the slightest idea where we’re going.
