Welcome to The Football Notebook, the place where I usually attempt to collect everything rattling around my head after another weekend across the entire football universe. This week requires a slight adjustment because American football, particularly the college variety, consumed essentially every available ounce of attention I had. Rather than wedge soccer somewhere near the bottom and pretend it received the consideration it deserved, Tuesday will get its own Football (Soccer) Notebook while today belongs entirely to this side of the Atlantic.
That seems reasonable enough. More importantly, it allows us to deal properly with a Saturday where five of the top seven teams lost, Texas entered another stage of existential crisis, Oregon State continued building one of the most interesting seasons in the country and the Los Angeles Rams somehow found another way to make a Super Bowl-caliber roster look ordinary.
Let’s open the notebook.
