The Saturday Storylines: 9-27-2025
The rubber meets the road in some big time games, family drama seeps into LSU-Ole Miss, and several teams look to avoid traps.
Last night’s action might’ve been enough for me to call this one of the best weeks of the year so far. Well, not really. My beloved Horned Frogs choked on the road against Arizona State, and my night was kind of ruined. But besides that, it was great! Florida State fell to Virginia, a bajillion fans stormed the field, and Houston narrowly escaped Oregon State in what was a strangely entertaining contest. There was a ton to love.
Even more greatness potentially awaits today. As The Saturday Watchlist will illustrate, there are so many good games to watch. As such, there are countless storylines and narratives to track as the day progresses. With how many games there are on a given college football Saturday, it can feel overwhelming trying to keep up with everything that’s going on. Fear not, because that’s where The Saturday Storylines comes into play. Below are some of the key plot points that I’ve circled for today. It’s not an exhaustive list, though I’d say there’s enough content here to keep any fan of the sport intrigued.

Rubber Meets the Road
Something’s got to budge in Alabama–Georgia and Oregon–Penn State. Each team enters with something it’ll need to overcome, but to do that, it will need to buck trends that have been years in the making.
Since Kalen DeBoer took over at Alabama prior to last season, the Crimson Tide are 2–4 in true road games. While the two wins were dominant triumphs over Wisconsin and LSU, the losses have mostly been embarrassing—the two defeats to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma in 2024 particularly stick out as humiliating. Time and time again, DeBoer’s Tide have failed to show up for the big moment away from Tuscaloosa, and that has to be a major concern as the team heads into tonight’s clash against Georgia.
