Week 2 promised one of the best Saturdays of the season, and somehow it actually delivered. Texas entered the fourth quarter down 23-3 against Ohio State before Arch Manning and the Longhorns came roaring back for a ridiculous 24-23 win in Austin. Ohio State had chance after chance to put the game away, Texas refused to die and suddenly the Longhorns look every bit like the national championship contender they were supposed to be.
That somehow wasn’t even the biggest upset of the day. Oklahoma State entered Saturday having lost 21 straight games against FBS opponents — including a loss to Tulsa just one week ago — and then promptly beat Oregon 39-31. Drew Mestemaker looked like the quarterback everyone was promised, Oregon suddenly has some serious questions to answer and the Cowboys have gone from one of college football’s biggest punchlines to a legitimate factor in the Big 12 race.
Elsewhere, Michigan survived Oklahoma in a game that resembled modern art in football form, Alabama eventually overwhelmed Kentucky and Texas A&M passed its first real test against Arizona State behind another dominant defensive performance. BYU might suddenly be the Big 12 favorite, Boise State made an early statement in the Group of Six race, Texas Tech continues to look nothing like the team we expected and there is plenty more to unpack from an absolutely loaded Saturday.
