Another Sunday, another completely ridiculous weekend of NFL football. Seth Dowdle is back for After Sunday to make sense of a Week 7 that saw the league’s last two undefeated AFC and NFC West teams suffer their first losses, the NFC North become even more chaotic and several unexpected contenders make their cases for being taken seriously.
The Seattle Seahawks dismantled the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs 20-3, exposing some serious concerns about Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons handed the San Francisco 49ers their first defeat of the season, and the Detroit Lions survived a wild 20-17 battle with the Green Bay Packers. Plus, Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears are starting to look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders after an impressive Thursday night victory over the New England Patriots.
Elsewhere, Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals scored 35 unanswered points to stun the Baltimore Ravens, raising an important question: Are the Bengals actually Super Bowl contenders? Seth also examines J.J. McCarthy’s impressive debut with the New York Giants, the Cleveland Browns’ surprising 5-2 start and the undefeated Minnesota Vikings, who somehow remain one of the most difficult teams in football to figure out.
There’s also plenty of nonsense happening in the NFC South. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers embarrassed the Carolina Panthers 43-13, Atlanta suddenly looks dangerous again, and the entire division has become a complete mystery. Seth breaks down the Buccaneers’ dominant performance, Carolina’s defensive collapse and whether anybody in the division can be trusted. Plus, an international game referendum following the Steelers-Saints matchup in Paris, questions about the NFL’s continued global expansion and a look ahead to another fascinating week of football.
