Manchester United have reached a new low, Tottenham have pulled off an extraordinary victory at Stamford Bridge, and Arsenal have somehow found themselves on the wrong end of one of the greatest cup upsets in English football history. Seth Dowdle is back with another episode of The Matchbook to break down a completely ridiculous week across the Premier League, European football and beyond.
Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth has raised even more questions about Michael Carrick’s future, the decision to bench Bruno Fernandes and whether there’s any realistic solution to the problems at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Bournemouth are enjoying a remarkable week after beating AC Milan in the Europa League before dismantling United. Aston Villa handed Manchester City a rare defeat, raising questions about whether Unai Emery is the best manager in the Premier League, Nico Jackson’s emergence and whether City’s siege mentality has finally run its course.
And yes, Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. An improbable, historic victory that might genuinely be the greatest day of Seth’s life. We’ll relive every glorious moment before discussing Liverpool’s win over Brighton and Arsenal’s thoroughly unremarkable victory against Everton. Of course, that Arsenal result looks considerably less important after Fleetwood Town produced an absolutely astonishing Carabao Cup upset. Is this the greatest shock in English football history?
Plus, Real Madrid win El Clásico, Harry Kane takes home the Ballon d’Or, and there’s plenty more to discuss from another unforgettable week of football.
What was the biggest result of the week? Is Carrick’s time at Manchester United running out? And just how far can this Tottenham team go? Let us know in the comments, SUBSCRIBE to The Football Corner and CLICK THE BELL for notifications as we bring you football coverage throughout the week!
